25-27 May 1699   The beginning of the week a Romish Priest, who had on a ministers gown, was taken in a baudy-house in So-hoe, and was committed to the Gatehouse. (The Post Boy)

28 March 1719   On Thursday last a most scandalous paper was cry’d in all parts of this city and suburbs, entituled, Stewarts, and Butler’s Key to unlock the Cuckold’s Padlock; and it was observed, that the same was bought up greedily by abundance of scoundrels of both sexes. Several of the hawkers, who are particularly employ’d by Papist’s and the English Jacobites, in vending and dispercing such base pamphlets, were at last seized, committed to the Workhouse, Bridewell and other prisons. The author of the aofrenamed paper, appears to be that infamous wretch, one Clifton a Papist, who is a prisoner in the Fleet, and makes it his business to publish unstampt and scandalous half-sheet papers. He was frequently been bound over to the King’s Bench, for base and treasonable practizes against the Government. (Weekly Journal, or, British Gazetteer)

12 May 1722   Yesterday was publish’d a Proclamation for putting the laws in execution against Papists and Nonjurors; for commanding all Papists and reputed Papists to depart from the Cities of London and Westminster, and from within 10 miles of the same; for confining Papists and reputed Papists to their habitations, and for putting in execution the laws against riots and rioters.
